What Is Hypnotherapy

So, what is hypnotherapy? Perhaps it conjures up an image of a stage hypnotist entertaining people.  In fact, this is far from the truth. By definition, it’s an alternative therapy and holistic in its approach. This therapy uses a deep relaxation via hypnosis to access the conscious & subconscious elements of the mind and is very safe and enjoyable too. Hypnotherapy can successfully be used to treat anxiety, stress, depression, self-confidence, phobias, substance abuse, addiction, OCD, phobias, IBS, weight management, smoking and vaping cessation management and so much more.

So, what’s Solution Focussed Hypnotherapy all about?

Solution focused hypnotherapy is a little different to traditional hypnotherapy. The main difference is that the solution focussed approach is a scientifically backed process designed to reduce anxiety, calm the mind and support you through the challenges you are currently facing in the here and now. We successfully work over a short period of time as that is all that is needed to help you to regain control and happiness back into your life.

We do not focus on the past we work in the present to help you to move forward in your life. In essence during hypnotherapy sessions, we are creating new neural pathways in the brain train to build new healthy patterns of behaviour that naturally create a more positive outlook in life. The power of the positive mind and this therapy is that it  breaks the vicious circle of negative-thinking and behaviour patterns that keep us tethered to the past.

So, What Happens In A Hypnotherapy Session?

Each hypnotherapy session is powerful, centred around you and getting you where you need to be. A session will include exploring the positive things that have happened over the last week. This establishes positive thought patterns in the brain and encourages the growth of new neural pathways in the area of the brain called the pre-frontal cortex. We visit the neuroscience behind behaviours that you may be experiencing and how this impacts your brain.

During this part of the session, we’ll explore how these positive things make you feel, and help you visualise the next small steps towards your goals. All of this uses the ‘intellectual brain’, located again in your left prefrontal cortex.. We will then consolidate the session with a deeply relaxing session also known as hypnosis. During this stage you are fully aware of what’s going on around you and you are in control. As you are guided into  this state similar to an REM state of focused attention you brin begins to produce serotonin the happiness neurotransmitter (chemical) in the brain.

Interestingly we enter a natural altered state several times a day, usually when we’re focussed on a task at hand, reading a book or driving. This is the same deeply relaxing state you will experience at the end of each session.  It’s just like daydreaming and even more enjoyable.

In this state, your brain is able to process things more deeply and discover meaning  and find solutions to issues. Hypnotherapy will help you to stop, breathe and relax. Change happens quickly to help you move on positively and successfully in your life.
